Their authority to manage traditional territories from the north coast, down the Skeena River to the mountains inland, as they have for generations will ensure the continued stewardship of their resources for generations to come.

Kitsumkalym’s Ayaawx Tsimshian Laws are rules governing their people, economic rights, and relations with other First Nations. Kitsumkalum’s long-standing political system, which operates under the Hereditary Chiefs and Matriarchs is alive and well, despite the complex impacts of colonization.

Kitsumkalum have a sacred trust and responsibility to care for their traditional territory. Their connection to the Skeena Region and the north coast are part of Kitsumkalum lifeway as Tsimshian.

An aluminum fishing boat floats on still water. A man stands at the back of the boat, wearing a PFD, with a fishing rod out in the water. The water is so still and clear, that the sky and mountains are reflected.
