First Nations work with the Province of British Columbia to assess all applications for proposed commercial activities in the region.
The key to a durable and healthy environment in the Great Bear Rainforest and Haida Gwaii is ensuring a permanent link between the region’s ecology and the prosperity of First Nations communities. Coast Funds was created to support the vital connection between sustainable development, the well-being of First Nations communities, and the permanent conservation of the region’s globally rare ecosystems.
Sustaining People and Place, Coast Funds’ 15-year impact report, describes how conservation financing has benefitted communities and supported the protection of rainforest ecosystems that are home to Spirit bears, wild salmon, and coastal wolves.
The report includes outcomes from nearly 15 years of First Nations’ investments in stewardship, economic development, and sustainable energy, as well as information about Coast Funds’ structure, service offerings, and investing strategy.
First Nations work closely with Coast Funds to measure the contribution every project makes to strengthening environmental conservation, economic prosperity, social empowerment, and cultural vitality.
