Following the announcement of the Great Bear Sea PFP, Coast Funds is growing its team to deliver new financing and services for First Nations. This summer, Coast Funds is hiring a Finance Manager to manage accounting services and support investment management, external audits, and financial analysis.

The Finance Manager will be an important member of a highly collaborative team that serves 29 First Nations on the coast of modern-day British Columbia. Our ideal candidate is a CPA with post-designation experience and a drive to advance investment management and professional accounting services.

Status Permanent, full-time (37.5 hours/week)
Intended Start Date July 2025
Location Our offices are in downtown Vancouver, BC and employees work a hybrid office/remote schedule (3 days in office). Occasional travel to coastal communities, as required.
Salary Range $105,000 – $115,000/year, depending on experience
Reports to Chief Financial Officer

The Opportunity

Working alongside the CFO with two direct reports, the Finance Manager will ensure Coast Funds’ financial operations are transparent, accurate, and efficient. As a key resource for financial oversight, this role guides reporting, compliance, and investment management to support long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

Finance Operations & Payroll

  • Ensure all financial operations run efficiently, maintaining accuracy and transparency in financial records.
  • Oversee payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and compliance with payroll regulations.
  • Support the implementation and integration of a new financial system to enhance efficiency and reporting capabilities.
  • Manage quarterly financial distributions, ensuring proper tracking and reporting.

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Carry out financial reporting requirements, including preparing and reviewing funder-specific reports.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including managing financial obligations related to funders and stakeholders.
  • Work closely with auditors, preparing necessary documentation and ensuring a smooth audit process.

Investment Management & Financial Analysis

  • Support quarterly portfolio balancing for two legal entities with a combined $440 million in assets.
  • Manage and track foreign exchange funds, ensuring compliance and alignment with financial strategies.
  • Conduct financial analysis to support investment decisions and long-term planning.

Budgeting

  • With oversight of the CFO, develop and monitor budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support decision-making. Liaise with partners to ensure financial strategies support long-term sustainability.

Team Supervision, Collaboration & Relationship Building

  • Supervise, support, and mentor accounting and finance staff, fostering growth and development.
  • Build and maintain proactive, positive, and constructive relations with Coast Funds staff, participating First Nations, and other partners.

Ideal Candidate

Key attributes for our ideal candidate include:

  • CPA designation with 2+ years of post-designation experience.
  • Strong background in financial analysis, budgeting, and regulatory compliance – experience in a not-for-profit organization would be an asset.
  • Comprehensive, proven experience managing external audits.
  • Strong understanding of investment management and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with finance system implementation and change management.
  • Experienced with MS Suite (in particular Excel and complex spreadsheets), Adobe Acrobat, Salesforce, and cloud-based financial software systems.
  • Strong business communication skills in both written and verbal form with an ability to write clearly and concisely.
  • Experience working for or with Ingenious communities and organizations is desirable.
  • Acts with integrity and neutrality to develop and maintain high-trust relationships.

About Coast Funds

Coast Funds is an Indigenous-led conservation finance organization established in 2007, as an outcome of the Great Bear Rainforest agreements, to manage funds for First Nations’ stewardship and economic.

In 2024, First Nations worked with Coast Funds and other partners to secure $335 million in new funding, through the Great Bear Sea PFP, for marine stewardship and community development. Today, the organization manages $440 million in stewardship endowments and economic funds, which are allocated between participating First Nations. Coast Funds also provides financial administration services to First Nations and their partners.

To date, Coast Funds has delivered more than $120 million for over 480 Indigenous-led conservation, economic development, and sustainable energy projects. With these investments, First Nations are strengthening coastal communities, diversifying local economies, and stewarding lands, waters, and life in their territories.
