Coast Funds’ Board of Directors is pleased to announce Percy Crosby has been elected to the role of Chair.

Crosby has been a member of the board since 2013 when he was nominated by the Council of the Haida Nation. Since then he has served as Chair of Coast Funds’ Capacity Building Committee and as a member of both the Investment, Finance, and Audit Committee and the Project Review Committee.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to step into this new position and continue a close collaboration with my fellow directors,” says Crosby. “I am energized as I look forward to continuing to steward this widely respected organization to achieve our mandate of supporting First Nations to achieve their conservation and economic development goals.”

Crosby represents Skidegate as an elected official for the Council of Haida Nation. He has also spent 25 years as a liaison between the Council of the Haida Nation, the provincial government, and the forest industry. Crosby also has extensive experience as both chair and committee member on a variety of boards.

Prior to his serving in this new role, Crosby was Vice-Chair of the board of directors and had been working closely with outgoing Chair, Merv Child, to ensure a smooth transition.

“Percy brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his new role and I’m extremely confident in his ability to continue to steward the organization as it serves First Nations throughout the Great Bear Rainforest and Haida Gwaii,” says Child.

Child, who was nominated to the board by the Na̲nwak̲olas Council, had been serving as a director since Coast Funds’ inception.

“Over the past decade we have been honoured to have Merv serve as a director on Coast Funds’ board,” said Crosby. “I would like to wholeheartedly thank Merv for his immense contribution to the success of the organization and the First Nations we serve.”

Child will be retiring from the board in late 2018 after serving three full terms, the maximum allowed under Coast Funds’ governance documents.
